Berlin Song

There is no such happiness in life as being with those special, some would say, ones you love. Even if they don't know it. Even if you are not quite aware of it. Even if years have gone by. An assortment of "even ifs" to big to fully grasp. I'm happy.

There is no such sadness as leaving those people behind, those you hold so close to your heart that it is almost like you leave a piece of yourself with them, which they will always hold, even if they don't know it. No hopes for a swift return to one another. No certainties that you will ever in your life meet again. No capital letters to say how much you will miss them. Nothing. Not a single tear shed or honest word spoken. Yet a handful, even yourself full, of hopes that one day, well, maybe one day, more later than sooner... One cannot simply have all the things one hopes for, isn't it?

That is the bittersweetness of life summed-up in one single action, one single simple thing: meeting people just to eventually leave them behind, in a past that might just not represent a future. And you just leave their rare smiles, remarkable looks, awkward companionship, all of that and so much more that you so profoundly cherish in a corner of your brain, that one that makes you remember everything so vividly.

I don't like goodbyes. So what do you say when "see you around" doesn't apply?
